This struck a chord in my soul this morning as I read it for school. Takes a little bit of time to get past the antiquated phrasing, but it’s worth it. 🙂
After the third read-through, I understood the essence of the poem. Yes, it is a worthwhile poem to unravel. The tension between what the writer wants and what he cannot help is poignant. It reminds me of Paul’s lament in Romans 7 about doing what he does not want to do, and not doing what he wants to do. I like the analogy of engagement “unto Your enemy” – a relationship we cannot ourselves divorce. Thanks for sharing!
To use Donne’s word, “ravishing!” Thank you for sharing this exquisite believer’s cry, Squid.

You inspired me to post the poem, as well, btw.
