Tri-Mystery Area!

Disclaimer: This will be my last post for a while, as I’ll be working at Camp Gilead again from the end of May until mid-July.

Hey guys!

I was nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award by three lovely blogger-friends in less than a month, so I suppose that I should actually do it, haha.
But first, the rules:

    • Use the logo (I made my own in Snapseed)
    • List the rules (in process!)
    • Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog (I’m gonna do that below)
    • Tell your readers 3 things about yourself (see below)
    • Answer the questions you were asked (see belower)
    • Nominate other blogs and notify them (see belowerer)
    • Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice, with one weird or funny question (SEE EVEN BELOWERER)

Acknowledgements:

First to nominate me was my new friend Hannah over at Cactus Honey, and then peckapalooza, and then Mr. Mitch Teemley gave me both a nomination and the “(belower)” idea for the rules, haha.  Interestingly, both peckapalooza and Hannah were nominated by Paul.  So, thank you to all of you! (including Paul? XD)

So, three things about me. Hmmmm

  1. If something doesn’t work well, I want to analyze it to death and make sure I know exactly why it isn’t working so that I can fix it.  This is why I want to go into economics, haha.
  2. I think it’s rather smart to never fully agree with someone. However, you should try to learn as much as you can from their viewpoint.
  3. I get annoyed by inconsistency.  I tried to make this post’s font all black (#000000), but then I realized that the default was gray, so I gave up and edited all the HTML code to put it back (TOO MANY <SPAN> CODES).

Now, the questions…

From Hannah:

  1. What book/poetry/blog are you currently reading and/or absolutely obsessed with?
    • Ender’s Game!!!!  I watched the movie soon after it came out, and I loved it.  I mean seriously loved it.  Then, I was assigned the book for school, and I loved it even more than I loved the movie, but for the same reasons.  Like, Orson Scott Card is amazing.  I only found a few good memes about it though, and that made me sad, haha.
    • QuickMemo+_2018-05-10-18-35-30.png
  2. What is your secret obsession? (ex. Kardashians)
    • Ummmmm movie soundtracks? Yup super embarrassing and secret. 🙂 I remember listening to How to Train Your Dragon’s, and then HTTYD2’s, and then I got into Owl City’s Adam Young’s soundtracks and I never looked back.
  3. What movie do you make all your friends watch? You know the one where you stare at their face to see how they react to your favorite parts, yeah that one.
    • It would be TV shows for me, I think, and it would be either Leverage or The Librarians.
  4. What is your favorite writing utensil? (Mine is Pilot Precise V5 RT pen)
    • AHHH I’M SO GLAD YOU ASKED!  It’s a Pentel Side FX 0.7mm mechanical pencil.  It’s super ergonomic and it side clicks you you don’t have to stop writing to hit the top of the pencil.  It loads super easy and holds multiple pieces of lead, and has a really great eraser that twists up.  I love everything about it. 🙂
  5. What’s one word everyone makes fun of you for saying funny?
    • I say towards (which is British) instead of the American toward… the same with backwards.  My mom has given up trying to change my mind…

Now peckapalooza‘s:

  1. What is the greatest movie ever made? (You’ll be forgiven if you do not say Back to the Future.)
    • The Princess Bride, of course!  I haven’t actually seen Back to the Future, haha.
  2. Of all the different types of pie in the world, what would you say is the tastiest?
    • Ahhhhhh my sister makes this amazing banana cream pie that I #cantstopwontstop raving about.
  3. Describe in words the first image you posted to your personal Instagram feed.
    • I don’t have an Instagram account, so I’m gonna substitute my first public Flickr pic I ever posted.
    • It’s a close-up vertical picture of green and pink decorative grasses.  I focused on a clump of stalks close to me, and the rest blur very featherly and pleasingly in the immediate background.
  4. What is your go-to song for karaoke night?
    • Chicago’s “Hard to Say I’m Sorry”.
  5. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? What did you end up doing?
    • I never made any plans when I was really little, but I can say I’m a kid for a few more months, so I don’t think I’m quite qualified to answer this in the past tense, haha.  My plans right now are to go to a small Christian college on a mountain and double major in Community Development and Economics with a minor in maybe Music or Psychology.  That way, I have a great path to serving God and others in the inner city. That’s what want to do, but we’ll see what God actually has happen.

And, lastly, Mr. Mitch’s questions:

    1. What moment or choice in your past do you wish you could undo?
      • That’s a hard question. There are things I did that caused me and those around me a lot of pain, but God worked in my heart through them, and good came from them, so can’t honestly say that I would not do them.  However, there are things that I wish I had done, like complimenting people and overcoming my shyness.
    2. Funniest movie/s you ever saw?
      • The Stupids starring Tom Arnold.  Starring really cheesy aliens, stereotypical evil guys, and a naive suburban family, this movie makes me and my family watch it over and over and over again, each time enjoying it just as much.  It was also on Comcast Demand or whatever, so that helped the watch-ability. XD
      • stupids
    3. Greatest song/s you’ve ever heard?
      • It Is Well by David Dunn (worship/Christian living)
      • Holding On To You by Twenty Øne Pilots (prayer/introspection/surrender)
      • What Makes You Beautiful – The Piano Guys (instrumentation/musicality)
    4. Greatest truth you’ve ever learned?
      • Wow, this is a harder question than I thought it would be.
      • Everybody will let me down, believe something I disagree with, etc., so the only person I should put my faith and love in is God, because He will never let me down or disappoint me.  It was a painful lesson to learn, but I’m learning the wisdom in it.
    5. What are the last words you want to hear before dying, and/or the first words you want to hear after dying?
      • Last words before dying: “You showed me how to live out God’s love”
      • First words after dying: “Well done, my good and faithful servant!”

Sisters On Our Knees Feature!

This week I had the honor and pleasure of being featured on a prayer blog, Sisters On Our Knees!  One of the ladies, Joy, is my long-term blogging friend who has been an encouragement to me since my early days of blogging.  One of her blogs, the one I’ve followed since the beginning, is Cherry Tree Poet, so please go check it out!

Anyway, the post is actually part one of two (because I write a lot… Sorry!), so next Wednesday the next part will be published too.

Without further ado, Meet Sydney: A Teenage Prayer Warrior

Song Roulette

Look, guys, I spelled it right!  I think.  At least, I copied how Paul from The Captain’s Speech spelled it, and he’s usually right…  I think.

(Grammarly isn’t yelling at me about it, so I guess that settles it too, lol)

Anyway, Paul had a great idea for a blog post and I’m going to see how successful it is for me to try it.  (We bloggers really enjoy good ideas.  It’s hard coming up with them for ourselves, hence all the chain nominations and awards.)   Paul’s idea was this: Shuffle your music and write down the song and what you think of when you hear it. Memories mainly, but also “why I like it” seems to be something cool to do. (Yes, Paul, I just used you as my cool-0-meter. You’re welcome.)

So, here goes.  I use Spotify instead of YouTube for my music — except for Kurt Hugo Schneider — so you’ll have to do some typing into your search bar if you want to listen to all this good stuff, sorry… but, for all my fellow Spotsters, I’ll also link each song to Spotify so that you can save the song to your account too if ya like it. 🙂

All Along – Remedy Drive

This song really brings me back to my childhood, when the JoyFm would play this on the radio.  Now they’ve moved on to newer songs, but this one still has a place in my heart.  Remedy Drive is one of those great Christian rock bands that is totally underappreciated.  I have a lot of their songs saved, haha, so we might come across them again.  🙂

Light Up The Sky – The Afters

Woah, another oldie-but-a-goodie!  Does anyone else say that?  My mom and I have said it for years — usually in relation to songs — but I can’t say I’ve ever heard anyone else…  If not, I dare everyone to use it at least once this week!  I saw The Afters in concert, opening for Building 429, a couple of years ago with Hawk Nelson.  Still one of my favorite concerts to this day because of venue and artists.  This song is one the classic The Afters songs.

Walk On Water feat. Melodie Wagner of Hillsong Young & Free – Family Force 5

Oh yeah!  This song is one that my sister, Carrie, and I would jam out to in my room when I first found it.  FF5 totally rocks the party (bonus points if you can tell me which of their songs that is from!) and Melodie Wagner’s voice is quite fantastic. 🙂

Your Love Is Mine – I Am They

This song isn’t one I know particularly well, but how I found the band has a story.  Rental cars are new.  The cars we own are (usually) not.  So, when we rented a car in West Virginia when we visited family, we were elated to find a SiriusXM satellite radio thingy built in.  After some hassle, we finally found The Message, a Christian music station that was reminiscent of the JoyFM, but who also played artists that I had never heard of before.  One of those was I Am They, a brand new (at the time) folksy-countryish band with a hit single called From The Day.  Obviously, that was not this song, haha.  This song was on their album that came out about a year later.  Though their songs are generally folksy, which is something I don’t usually like, I do enjoy this song. 🙂

Mork and Mindy – Daniel Caine Orchestra

I love Mork and Mindy!!!  This is the theme to one of the greatest shows I think TV has ever seen.  Mainly because of young Robin Williams, but also just because of the warmth and lovely content of the show itself.  Mork, an alien visitor to Earth, is so innocent and loving to everyone that he constantly is getting himself into trouble, and it is enhanced by Robin Williams’ comedic skill as the wonderful Mork himself.  Mindy is so sweet and puts up with so much that you can’t help but love her too. 🙂  So, this song makes me so happy just listening to it.

Strawberry Avalanche – Owl City

This song is super nostalgic for me, despite not understanding it at all, lol.  My dad used to play it all the time along with Alligator Sky and Fireflies, and I remember playing Nibbles (Snake for certain Linux users) on the computer he helped me build in the living room while we blasted these songs throughout the house. #childhood

He Has Come For Us (God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen) – Meredith Andrews

Yes, I know this is a Christmas song, but I do listen to Christmas music around Christmas time, and those songs get saved, so here we are.  I really like this semi-traditional Christmas song because a) I have always liked Meredith Andrews’ voice and b) She mixes two songs together and that’s always cool. 🙂

Eye Of The Hurricane – Me In Motion

I love this song!!  I hadn’t listened to it in forever and now I’m really happy that I did this post. 🙂 This was another one of those overplayed-then-totally-ignored songs the JoyFM played years and years ago.  I was driving near one of our old neighborhoods a couple years ago when I suddenly remembered it and resolved to look it up as soon as I got home.  It has remained one of my favorites ever since.  A fun side-note: Eye of the Storm by Ryan Stevenson has become popular in the Christian music industry, but I liked it for almost a year before they discovered it, hehehe

Galaxies Collide – eleventyseven

Mwahahahahahahahaha I am so happy that this one came up!!!  I was dearly hoping that I would get to share one of my favorite bands with you all!  They’re probably an acquired taste due to the sensory overload of synthesizers and purposely-obviously-auto-tuned voices, so I really can’t explain why I like them so much, but the fact remains!  Their lyrics are subtly Christian except for their hymns album which is rather unashamedly God-focused, haha. 🙂  This song is, to me, asking God to light our hearts on fire like how stars shine when galaxies collide (very brightly!).  This is also a really fun song to play on the guitar 😀
Unfortunately, eleventyseven split up a while back.  Why fortunately?  Despite the fact that most of the band members decided to get on with their lives, the lead singer wanted to do a side project with edgier lyrics and sounds.  This birthed The Jellyrox, whose songs I love about as much as the original band’s. (One of the songs, Condo In Neverland, is about how he doesn’t like growing up and was inspired by the disbanding). I’ve listened to both bands for about 3 years now but only a couple months ago found out their connection. :O

You’re Not Alone – Meredith Andrews

Another Meredith Andrews?  Alright, here goes!  This is a powerful worship song that God has used many times to convict me when I’m freaking out and, hence, not honoring Him.  Lots more I could say on this but I’m not sure how to.

This concludes my Song Roulette #1!  I hope you guys enjoyed it, and if enough people did, I might do another one, but no promises… 😉

Handwriting Tag!

Allie nominated me for the Handwriting Tag!  Thankfully, my parents just upgraded my tech to an LG G4 so I am now able to take pictures of things in front of me, including my notebook.  Without this phone, you’d be waiting a lot longer for this post…

I was given things to write as follows:

1. My name.

2. My blog’s name (I included the address too…)

3. My favorite word and its definition.

4. Something nice.

5. The name of my favorite song right now.

6. What I was writing with.

7. A fun fact about myself.

8. To write and/or draw my favorite emoticon.

9. A silly message.

10. Who I’m tagging. (the scary part)

So, without further ado, my handwriting!

I’ll be en route to camp for the next couple of days and then at camp for the rest of the week.  Until then, tata!

Squid

P.S. I’ll start volunteering at my local library when I get back from camp! 😍😄 My application was accepted today. 🙂

Liebster… Mach II

Recently, the amazing Sayl over at Sayl With Pens was nominated for the Liebster Award!  Yayayay go her!!!  Rewind time a bit and I’m doing my Liebster… How time flies. 🙂  Anyhow, she nominated me, and because the super official rules created by Ryo112358 don’t have anything to say about what you’re supposed to do if you get nominated twice, I’m going to make up my own procedure. Here goes nothing!

So, traditionally, I supposed to thank the person who nominated you.  Thank you, Sayl!  I’m looking forward to answering the questions you sent me!  But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves… hehehe…

The second “traditional” thing to do is write down 11 facts about yourself.  Weeeelll, I’m not sure I’ll do that many, but you never know!

1. I’m homeschooled.  I’m not sure if everyone knew that, but I have been since day one and have never regretted it.  My mom would even threaten me with public school enrollment when I was misbehaving back in the day when I thought that that was a legitimate threat.  Schools don’t exist, right? Hahahahahahaha

2. I wanted a pet my whole life and then, within the past 3 years, I “inherited” a dog and got a cat too! They’re amazing and adorable. 🙂

3. Next year, God willing, at this time, I’ll be braces-free!  #thisismyfightsong

4. I’ve actually gotten paid to take people’s pictures before and I have another job lined up right now!  Thankfully, they’ve all been friends of ours, but it’s still a lot of pressure. 🙂

5. I have a lot of hair.  Like, it’s not even funny.  We call it my “mane” sometimes, and it feels like it most of the time!

6. I have very limited social media accounts.  I don’t use Google Plus on my Google account, don’t have Facebook or Twitter, etc.  The only things I use is WordPress and Flickr, but even Flickr is limited because I don’t surf it at all due to very weird/inappropriate content out there.  I use it for storing and sharing my pictures because they give you a whole terabyte of free storage! 😀 My photo feed is on the side of my blog, and I would love if you would check it out!

7. I’m very picky about my footwear and about the type of note cards I use.  It sounds silly, but it’s true.  Footwear-wise, I wore almost nothing but Converse for a year or two.  A lot of my friends (and their parents) were surprised when I started branching out a bit.  What can I say?  I found a great pair of boots! Good-will, Good-will, Good-will,  (come on guys!  Chant with me!) Good-will!!
I also use a LOT of notecards for my foreign language (Latin) and I can now tell between “good” notecards and “bad” ones.  The thickness, margin size, and other features all are very important. 🙂

8. If it wasn’t already obvious, I love Goodwill!  There are usually super nice people on duty at the charging rooms, and everything is so cheap!!  And, I usually don’t like modern fashions, so finding stuff there without a modern feel is a day-makers for me.  And, finding designer brands for $7 is amazing. 🙂

9. I love superheroes, but in a vintage, “the comics were better” type of way.  All my friends (and their parents) know that if they ask after a movie, “Was this thing/event/person in the comics?” that I’ll usually have the answer.  My uncle indirectly brought about this great love, because my grandma still had some of his old TMNT comics and when I went to her house I would devour them.  I have mostly memorized them by now, but I still love them anyway.

10. I’m a retro-loving music person.  I envy my dad that he went to Petra concerts all the time, went to college with Audio Adrenaline, and saw dc Talk in concert!!  Of course, my kids will probably say similar things about the fact that I’ve seen For King and Country in concert… but still!  My friends have usually never heard of half the music I listen to, like Carman (who?) or Idle Cure.  I just went to my friend Bri’s Sweet 16 and I asked the DJ (one of our friend’s stepdads) to play dc Talk’s “Free At Last” and he was totally shocked by the fact that I knew who dc Talk was.   If you don’t know who they are, think TobyMac, Michael Tait (lead singer of Newsboys), and Kevin Max (lead singer of Audio A in their Kings and Queens days) all in a band.  And that’s what it was! 😀

11. Wow!  I made it to eleven!  Go figure! XD
OK, I am the oldest of 5 kids in a blended family.  I have twin step-sisters who are 8 months younger than I am, a blood-sister who is 3 1/2 years younger than I am, and a 2-year-old half-brother. Interestingly, we have fewer children in our family than many of the families at our church do.  There are families with 12, 10, 9, 8, etc. children and we’re friends with many of them! 😀

—————————————————————————

Now, for what you’ve all been waiting for, Sayl’s questions!

What’s your favorite season? Why?

Well, in Flordia we have a tiny mashing of winter and summer that most locals call “spring”, a loooonnngg hot summer, a tiny less-hot-than-summer fall period, and an unpredictable winter.  This winter is like spring with lower temperatures.  So, I would have to go with winter. 🙂

If you were asked to meet this new person…would you? How would you introduce yourself?

Yes, I would, but I would stand still for about 5-7 minutes preparing the perfect introduction and praying.  My personality type is extroverted, but I can’t seem to convince my fear of it.  Yet. 🙂  After coming up with the perfect way to approach this unknown person, I’d go up to them and this would probably happen:

Me: “Excuse me.”

Person: “Oh, hi!”

Yeah, then I usually tell them my name awkwardly and we’re either great friends or he/her is totally weirded out.  It really depends.

What’s your biggest fear?

Being scared.  I know God will protect me in every situation or work it out for good, so I’m not scared of the outcome of situations, but I’m scared of the initial grip of panic.  Kinda weird, I know, but true.

That or living a life in which I did nothing for God.  That scares me.

Scared of Heights?

I love heights!  I’m just scared of falling off of them. 😀 Sometimes I get dizzy and have to hold onto the railing or something, but I love the thrill.

Favorite drink?

Mango-flavored sweet tea that isn’t too sweet.  Or, fruit drinks that aren’t artificially flavored with aspartame and/or sucralose.  Seeing stevia or xylitol on an ingredients list makes me want to high-five the company. 🙂

Are you the let’s do the easy way? OR are you the one who will go through complicated processes to get what you want?

I’m the one that doesn’t mind doing hard things if it’s necessary, but I need to want to eliminate any unnecessary steps along the way, otherwise I get frustrated.  I don’t like wasting my time. (That is a very mob-boss thing to say, don’t you think?)

What’s your favorite thing to do in your pastime?

Ooh, this is hard.  You’re getting a list… 🙂

  1. Read
  2. Play music
  3. Listening to music while talking to friends online
  4. Math
  5. Watch birds
  6. Take a walk (if weather permits, and I don’t just mean rain)

Are you considered a deep person? Why or why not?

Yes, I think so.  At least, I consider myself to be one. 🙂 I tend to remove myself from the equation and look at the world from a distance.  That gives me some insight that others may not have.

Are you awesome at listing 11 random things about you? Or does it take super long to come up with 11 things?

I took a while to come up with the ones in this post, but not as long as I expected.

List your favorite blog here! Why are they your favorite blog?

Math With Bad Drawings  His posts are so funny and I love math, so it’s sorta a win-win. 🙂

Have you ever tried to hug someone but it turned out to be a total stranger and it wasn’t who you thought it would be?

No, not exactly.  I think I have been walking behind someone who and saying, like, “Carrie… *person doesn’t turn around* Carrie, *still doesn’t respond* CARRIE!!” To a person who I thought was my sister and was just ignoring me but was actually someone NOT named Carrie. Yeah… That was awkward.

—————————————————————————

Well, I hope that you got at least one laugh (but hopefully two) from this Q&A and “Let’s-learn-more-about-Squid” session!

TTFN,

Squid

Photo Challenge, Day 1

A couple days ago, Bri the Missionary in the Making challenged me to join her in a photo challenge that she found on Blogger.  As soon as she said my name and photo in the same post, I was in! 😀  Today’s prompt word is Intricate, so I immediately thought of nature (which I almost capitalized… thanks a lot, Gabriel 🙂 ). My first subpoint on that outline was spiderwebs, but as it was already mid-day when I found out the prompt, all webs had disappeared.  I had just finished reading a book about a family of French weavers, and it had me thinking.  If we found a piece of cloth on the ground, we wouldn’t assume it was just a pile of yarn that had miraculously tangled itself just so as to be a sturdy textile, would we?  No, of course not.  In Florida was have these giant stalks of grass incorrectly called Palm Trees.  No, I’m not making this up.  Go Google it.  I’ll wait.  OK, now that you’re back (or are a Floridian and knew it already), let’s continue.  These tall stalks are very fibrous. Each layer has been woven together to create its tough exterior.  Yet, most people you talk to on the street will say that it is just a well-evolved plant. Hm, I’m not sure I see that logic.  So, today, I decided to highlight the intricate weaving of the palm trees that God so perfectly designed.  The sunburst was a nice bonus too. 🙂

DSC_8371-edited

Now, unfortunately, there are some, *gasp* rules.

RULE ONE: The photo has to be taken on the day of the post, i.e. you can`t use old pictures. (This is the hardest rule for me, because I’m the kind of person that if, by a rare chance, I do upload my pics to my laptop on the same day I take them, I put off editing and sorting them for weeks.  So, this is a good disciplinary challenge too. 🙂 )

RULE TWO: No Plagiarism. Must be your pic and yours alone.

RULE THREE: You must follow the five prompts that I`ll be posting my along with my pictures, unless, you know, you find another photo challenge prompt site and decide to do theirs instead. *dramatic lonely sigh*

Alright, now for my nominee.  *drumroooooool*

Joy!

I’ve seen what you can do on Flickr, so I can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with for this challenge! (If you accept, of course. 🙂 )

Squid

P.S. Did anyone catch 6+10=16? I was wondering if I had gotten anyone trained yet, so I didn’t do a post.

Quotes Challenge, Day 3 (plus extras)

Well, here we are.  It’s the last quotes challenge post.  Thanks for sticking with me this far, and I hope that you guys have enjoyed the quotes I’ve posted! If you want more, I have a page called Favorite Quotes and Bible Verses at the top of my blog that I add quotes to when I remember. 🙂  Have you guys noticed the extra fourth quote I’ve been adding as the featured image at the top of these posts?  You have? Have you? (thanks, Grammarly) Good!  I realized I could bend the rules a bit by doing that. 😉

Before we get to the quotes and nominations, I have exciting news!  I aced my open-book second-semester math exam!  I did Mr. D Math this year and now I’m done with Algebra I forever!  Next year I’ll be taking Geometry with the same program because I heartily recommend it to anyone, whether they struggle with math or it’s their favorite thing ever (or anywhere in-between).

Also, today’s date is a palindrome!  6-1-16 (minus the dashes) is 6116 and I have smiled every time I’ve written it on schoolwork today. 🙂 I’m smiling just typing that out!  So, this is an unofficial math day because of that.

Now, our feature presentation. *really old Disney intro music*

who says converseyou'll get run overmlkj quote

The Converse picture was made by my artistic sister who knows me way too well. 🙂 (That is my foot too, BTW). I have done that before too… to church. *shocked gasps* 🙂

My final nominees are…

  1. Joy the cherry tree poet. 🙂
  2. Teddy’s New Bear
  3. Paul (though I’d like to see Paulo do it too!)

That’s all folks! *tosses away carrot* (tacit Looney June reference, Paul!)
