—Herman Melville

Quotes Challenge, Day 1

It’s day one of the rest of my life, day one of the rest of my life!  I’m marching on to the beat of, a brand new drum, yeah, here I come, the future has begun, day one!

Sorry, Matthew West reference.  I couldn’t help myself.

The wondrous Allie M. from The Wondrous Life of Allie M. nominated me for a 3 Day Quotes Challenge!  The rules are to post 1-3 quotes each day for 3 days, and each day nominate 3 people.  So, here goes nothing! 😀

I have found in my own life, at least, that C. S. Lewis had it right. Plus the style of the picture is so elegant! 🙂

Ronald Reagan value of life

Which is sadly what is happening right now.

Tomnoddy is of course insulting to anybody

Of course, I’d be insulted! Wouldn’t you? 😀

So that’s all for today, but today’s nominees are… *drumroll*

They’re super cool girls with fun blogs and, if they (you) accept, then I can’t wait to see what they come up with!

End Of The Year… A Recap

First of all, thank you.

You guys rock.  Yes, I’m talking to you.  You who entered your email address into that follow widget or clicked the follow button to add me to your WordPress Reader.  I can’t put into words (though I’m going to try) how much your support, comments, and likes have meant to me.  I still remember the first random stranger who followed me, and the feeling of being stalked.  And although that person never liked or commented on my posts, (why are you following me again?) nothing bad happened to me, so I realized I was fine. Then I started branching out and reading other people’s posts, and people started following me back!  I was so surprised!  You all were so supportive, and encouraged me to pursue this mystery of the bloggerverse.  You nominated me for two awards, the Liebster Award, and the Sunshine Blogger Award, and even a challenge!  You made me feel like one of the community, and I appreciate it so much.

I follow a lot of amazing blogs, but I’d like to give a few shout outs…

  • Generally Normal Science Brand new blog by my friend Wesley.  Content includes theoretical Star Wars science, so check it out.
  • Mitch Teemly is a Christian comedian and book writer who is hilariously funny and awesome. I am honored that he follows me and likes what I post.
  • Math With Bad Drawings takes stereotypes about math and illustrates them with a dose of wry humor.

A lot has changed in this blog since this time last year… as my long-time followers will know.  I don’t post as many of my pictures anymore, but I will try to remedy that.  I’m going to post a little less often as my schoolwork-load increases, but I’ll try to make the posts that I do publish as special as possible. 🙂

Like they do with all WordPress users, WordPress sent me an end-of-the-year recap, but I won’t bore you with ALL of the details, instead I’ll share the highlights that YOU made possible.

The busiest day of the year was August 14th with 92 views. The most popular post that day was Beach Birds.

The most popular posts of the year were:

The post that received the most comments was one on spiders, surprisingly… Tallahassee Trip: Day 1, Part 3 (Spiders).

Now for my favorite posts of this year.  The ones I am most pleased with and had the most fun writing, no matter what the numbers say.

I did attempt to make a Daily Thankfulness List, but as I only got 11 published, I think that the “Daily” part isn’t quite appropriate, lol.  I might do weekly ones now, I’m not sure.

Thank you all so much for all the love, God has truly blessed me with you all.

Happy New Year!!

Sunshine Blogger Award!

Today I got a pleasant surprise, Debbie at sistersreachout.com nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award!  I am so honored!  I’ve never been nominated for an award before, so this is exciting.  I researched what this award is all about and like most awards, it seems like this is a virtual pat on the back.  Although this one is for being a light, like Jesus told us to be, which makes this extra special.

Alright, so with great honor comes great responsibility, and here it is.  I am going to answer 6 questions and then nominate 3 other people to answer them too.  (I think that this is how that works)  So here goes!

  • What is your greatest passion?

Channeling my love for God into creative outlets such as photography, writing, and music.

  • What are your greatest abilities?

Learning quickly.  Although someone usually has to show me the ropes first.  This goes for learning how to turn the soundboard on, learning new songs, strum patterns, drumbeats, etc. in music, and algebraic equations in math.

  • How do you apply your greatest passions and abilities?

I help out on the sound team at our church, play the guitar when my family leads worship, and try to help out others when they don’t understand something.

  • How do you unwind from a hectic day?

Scroll through my Reader on WordPress, listen to music, or play games on my tablet.

  • If you had to choose one, reading or writing, which would you choose?

Reading, because otherwise I couldn’t read the Bible.

  • What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned?

Don’t hide things from my parents… they always find out.
That was fun, but now it is time for the nominations!  *fanfare* *drumroll*

  1. Joy the Cherry Tree Poet.  Her poems that always brighten up my day. 🙂
  2. Sarah from Things That Are Little. Her thankful nature always makes me more appreciative of what God has given me.
  3. Teresa at Eden Hills because her goats, llamas, and birds always make me smile.

Please take this as my appreciation nomination! (say that 3 times)
Thank you for being rays of sunlight in this dark world!

No “E”s Allowed!

I received a writing challenge/nomination from fellow blogger Mitch Teemly ( http://mitchteemley.com/ ) which might be a little challenging, but I’ll give it a try.

Here are the rules:
1. Write a whole paragraph without any words containing the letter “e”.
2. By reading this, you have already signed up.
3. Challenge at least five bloggers to do this. They must do it within 24 hours or it is considered as failure.
4. If you fail or pass, suffer in the Page of Lame.
5. If you win, wallow in the Page of Fame.

This should be fun!  Here goes…

This is a story about a mouthy kid who walks into a fairyland, but nobody is around.  Kid says, “… …” For a strong hand clasps his mouth shut.
“Say anything, and a darling kookaburra burns to dust.”
“Anything!” With a sly grin.
“Alright, I’ll kill him.”
“What?  No!  Wait, who is your boss?  I can bargain for this thing’s acquittal!”
“How can a kid know that word?”
“You wouldn’t know, but I am a “smart kid on campus”, two months running.”
“But Mr. Smart Guy, how you gonna win again if you stay in my boss’s prison for 10 months?  Mwahahahahaha!”  And with that, a blindfold blocks his vision and light starts to vanish, and his socks touch wood of a cart, that rolls away towards a scary-looking mansion, Kid is curious about bunking situations in prison.

Well, that turned out to be a bit depressing, and didn’t really have much of a plot, but I did it without mentioning “E”!  I want to thank Dictionary.com for giving me lots of synonyms, helpful and not so much.
Now for the nominations. Drumroll please… *ratatatatatat*
