By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command so that what is seen was not made of what is visible.

Hebrews 11:3

Truth is an unpopular subject.  Because it is unquestionably correct.

Fortune Cookie (I’m serious)

Science has never discovered any facts which are in conflict with the statements Genesis 1… Not for an instant can its accurate statements be regarded as out of harmony with true science.

Edward J. Young

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

Hebrews 10:23

If God is concerned with astronomy, which piety desires to believe, then I hope that I shall achieve something in this domain.

Johannes Kepler

Would it not be strange if a universe without purpose accidentally created humans so obsessed with purpose?

John Templeton

We are afraid to care too much, for fear that the other person does not care at all.

Eleanor Roosevelt

If you start deciding to reject parts of biblical history, you have really departed from the science of history and are more or less making it up as you go.

Exploring Creation With General Science by Dr. Jay L. Wile (Page 130)

Teach us to study the works of Thy hands, that we may subdue the earth to our use and strengthen our reason for Thy service.

James Clerk Maxwell

Isaac Newton believed that in studying science, he was actually learning about God… He recognized the importance of science, but he also realized that learning about God is even more important.

Exploring Creation With Physical Science by Dr. Jay L. Wile (Page 230)

The unexamined life is not worth living.

Socrates

The most necessary task of civilization is to teach people how to think.  It should be the primary purpose of our public schools.  The mind of a child is naturally active, it develops through exercise.  Give a child plenty of exercise, for the body and brain.  The trouble with our way of education is that it does not give elasticity to the mind.  It casts the brain into a mold.  It insists that the child must accept.  It does not encourage original thought or reasoning, it lays more stress on memory than observation.

  1. Great quotes, Squid! Thanks for sharing. That’s so funny that you quoted a fortune cookie! XD Hey…it said the truth though. 😉

btw, I like the new blog theme!

    1. Hehe, right? I felt kind of silly writing out a fortune from a fortune cookies, but, hey, it was good! I’m glad you liked them. 🙂
Thank you! I think it suits me.

  2. Such an inspiring lineup of quotes. I especially liked the one from Thomas Edison about public education “lay[ing] more stress on memory than observation.” This absence of true learning was part of the reason I transitioned from public school to home school.
As a fan of Dr. Wile’s work (I used his curriculum from general science to physics), I was also excited that you included a quote from him.

    1. Aww, thanks! Sounds like we think very similarly about public school “education”, haha!
Yayay! Another Dr. Wile fan!! I’ve used his courses since General Science and I’m in the middle of Chemistry now… Looking forward to Physics!!! He is super quotable, haha. 😀

      1. I used Dr. Wile’s chemistry curriculum in 10th grade, two years ago, and still remember some of the material. I especially liked the stoichiometry problems in that course. Of all of the sciences I’ve studied, physics ranks as my #1 favorite. (It relies heavily on math, a subject I adore.) I hope you enjoy it next year!

        1. Oh my GOODNESS I would have said the exact same thing!! I’m a few weeks into stoichiometry and I love it so much! I get slightly overwhelmed occasionally when I don’t understand the logic or something, but the math is so much fun!! When I got a taste of physics from his Physical Science course, I ADORED it!!! The math is so fantastic!! I’m looking forward to it so much for next year! 😀

          1. Hooray, a fellow home schooling math geek! I study with my six-week-older sister and she, while a fellow lover of learning, does not join with me in my enthusiasm for math. (Also, reading your About Me page, I find another similarity between the two of us: Writing comes easily to me as well! I’ve loved writing since I could hold a pencil. Career goals for the future: mathematician and published author.)

            1. Six-week-older sister?! Wowza! How did that happen, haha? I have twin step-sisters that are 8 months younger than me and they do not share my enthusiasm for math and Stoichiometry… *sigh*
Oooooh, yes! Published mathematician authors forever!! Have you ever read the blog Math With Bad Drawings??? It’s been one of my favorites for a very long time… I think you’d enjoy it!!

              1. My sister and I are adopted, me a year before her, which fact sometimes confuses people given that she’s older. She’s more artistically-inclined, preferring drawing, music, and history over math and English. Still, that may come in handy one day. We’ve had a plan for awhile where I write a story for publication and she illustrates it.
I’ve heard of the blog Math with Bad Drawings, and remember scanning it a couple of months ago, but haven’t returned since. I’ll definitely make a point this week to revisit it!

                1. Oh cool! My younger (biological) sister is definitely more artsy than I am, but I’m slightly more musical? (#debatable) We too had the idea of me writing a book and her publishing it!! 😄
